Free concert series, Pickin’ on the Porch, continues with Appalachian folk and old time music
The Valley Echo
July 2, 2021
A free concert series hosted by the Black Mountain Center for the Arts will continue at 5 p.m., Saturday, July 2, when the sounds of the Appalachian folk and old time music echo from the back porch of the historic building.
The third installment of Pickin’ on the Porch will feature the Inntentional String Band.
The foursome, which began playing music together more than 30 years ago, is comprised of Ann and Jim White, of Franklin, Tennessee, and Doug and Cheryl Frey, or Old Fort.
Through the years the band members maintained their love of music and friendship, even though jobs and family changes separated them physically. They have performed at festivals, weddings, church services and in many living rooms. Their album, Sing Me a Song, has spread far and wide on both U.S. coasts and even across the globe.
From Old Time ballads to lively “almost” bluegrass to folk tunes, Inntentional String Band offers a unique blend of beautiful vocal harmonies and instrumentation. Ann plays rhythm guitar and bass; Jim banjo, guitar, and mandolin; Doug bass and autoharp and Cheryl plays lap dulcimer, mandolin and bass.
The tunes, which span the emotional spectrum, will make concertgoers tap their toes and shed a tear here and there.
The next Pickin on the Porch free concert will feature Laura Boswell on Friday, Aug. 13.
