A summer tradition returned to Montreat, July 3, as red, white and blue filled the streets around Lake Susan.
Sponsored by the Montreat Conference Center, the 52nd annual Montreat Fourth of July Parade featured dozens of entries and hundreds of community representatives.
The route of the parade, which was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, follows Lookout Road below Lake Susan and north along Assembly Drive. The theme for the celebration, a culmination of a weekend of patriotic festivities in the conference center, was Montreat MASQuerade.
Participants included Town of Montreat Mayor Tim Helms, campers and counselors from the conference center, local veterans, community organizations and more. Many of the entries, including the Montreat Scottish Society, the Montreat Scottish Pipes & Drums and the Patriotic Westies (West Highland Terriers), participate each year.
