Since opening its inaugural outdoor concert series this summer, new Black Mountain live music venue Silverados has hosted a diverse array of renowned and award-winning musical acts.

That trend will continue, Saturday, July 3, when two-time Grammy Award winner Jim Lauderdale teams up with Asheville acoustic supergroup, Songs From the Road Band, for a 7 p.m. show.

Lauderdale’s most recent album, When Carolina Comes Home Again, is a bluegrass album paying tribute to his N.C. roots - Lauderdale was born nearby in Statesville. The album features a who’s-who of musicians from the Old North State, including Songs From the Road Band; the group’s bassist and bandleader, Charles R Humphrey III, co-wrote three tracks with Lauderdale.

“Doing some shows with Jim was a natural next step,” Humphrey said, “and it’s a thrill and an honor every time we get to take the stage together. He’s a legend in multiple genres - bluegrass, country, Americana - and one of my very favorite songwriters.”

Humphrey, an Asheville native who won a Grammy as a member of the Steep Canyon Rangers in 2012, is one of two founding members of the Songs From the Road Band. The bassist is joined by fellow founder and lead vocalist Sam Wharton; award-winning mandolin player Mark Schimick; two-time National Fiddle Champion James Schlender and banjoist Gabe Epstein.

“This is our first time playing Silverados,” Humphrey said, “and we’re so excited about what they’re doing for the music community here in WNC.”

Celebrating their inaugural season this summer, Silverados is a new festival-style venue with a big stage and big dreams: to bring legendary artists in a variety of genres right here to the Swannanoa Valley. Food trucks will be on site, and full bar service is available. Attendees are invited to bring a camping chair and get their perfect spot in Silverados’ large general admission outdoor space.

“This show will be one for the books for Songs From the Road Band,” Humphrey said. “We can’t wait to play this epic new stage with our friend and hero Jim Lauderdale - and we can’t wait to see you there.”
