Five Warlassies, surrounded by their parents and supporters, walked to the center of Warhorse Stadium for the final regular season home game of their high school careers, May 3, as Owen celebrated Senior Night.
When they stepped off the field, following a 7-0 victory over Avery, the Warlassies set up a Western Highlands Conference championship match against Madison. The win was the ninth in 10 matches for Owen, which improved to 8-1 in the conference ahead of their second meeting with Patriots, who will enter the Monday, May 8 contest with a 9-0 WHC mark.
Head coach Trei Morrison and principal Dr. Samantha Sircey greeted Mia McMcurry, Julia Givens, Katiana Wilhelm, Maesyn Gardner and Olivia Kadens with gifts and flowers at midfield before the Warlassies took the field against the Vikings, who came into the night with a 4-10 record.
Kadens put her team on the scoreboard early, when she received the ball in front of the net in early in the match. Ten minutes later, the senior found sophomore Kaylee Allison who gave Owen a 2-0 advantage.
Junior Abby Reitzel added another goal from around 30 yards out, before Allison netted her second of the half. Reitzel added to her tally in the minutes before the break, giving Owen a 5-0 advantage.
The home team added a pair of goals in the second half, winning its fourth straight match. The streak follows a 1-0 loss to Madison in mid-April.
