A parade honoring the men and women who have served in the U.S. military will return to State Street, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 11, as Black Mountain Salutes commemorates Veterans Day.
The Western N.C. Veterans Day Parade, which will be led by World War II Veterans and Grand Marshal Art Lindsay, is free and open to the public.
The procession will begin near the entrance of Black Mountain Primary School and travel west along U.S. 70, ending at North Dougherty Street. Participants will include veterans from across the region, the Charles D. Owen Warhorse Battalion and A.C. Reynolds Rocket Battalion, marching bands, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9157, American Legion Post 70, representatives of the Combat Motorcycle Club, Paws and Effect and area Boy and Girl Scout troops. Military vehicle, bagpipes and more will included in the lineup, according to organizers.
Spectators are invited to observe the parade from the sidewalks along the route.
The parade, organized by veterans Weston Hall, Michael Ogun and Theodore Horan, was canceled last year due to inclement weather. As the event returns for 2023, organizers invite any veterans who wish to participate to contact Black Mountain Salutes at 828-772-0515.
