When the Warren Wilson Owls women’s basketball team stepped off the court for the last time, Feb. 29, 2020, the were celebrating their first Eastern Metro Athletic Conference Championship and the 100th career win for head coach Robin Martin in Charlotte.

Weeks later, the COVID-19 pandemic would force the school to postpone athletic competition for a calendar year. On March 1, in the DeVries Gym, the Owls finally hoisted their EMAC championship banner at home, but the celebratory atmosphere was squelched in a 40-point loss to Bluefield State College.

Warren Wilson welcomed the Blues to open an abbreviated 2020-21 season in which they will play five games at home and three on the road.

Bluefield State began its season in November and entered Monday night’s contest with a 5-10 record. The Blues jumped out to an early lead that increased steadily as the game went on. They extended a double-digit halftime lead to 96-56 win in the second half.

The Owls will play back-to-back games on the road before returning home, Monday, March 8, to host Mid-Atlantic Christian. Warren Wilson defeated the Mustangs, 97-43, when the teams met in February of 2020.
