The Warlassies are winners of five of their last six contests, following a Sept. 16 victory over Western Highlands Conference opponent, Avery.

Owen needed five sets at home to dispatch the Vikings, 25-19, 24-26, 25-17, 22-25, 15-4, and improve to 5-4 this season.

The win was the second straight for the Warlassies, who opened the season 0-3 under Kristy Kamer, the former Montreat College head coach who is in her first season at the helm for the Owen program.

The Warlassies began conference play with consecutive victories over Draughn, Mitchell and Mountain Heritage. They bounced back from a 3-0 loss to Rosman with a 3-1 win over Reynolds, Sept. 13.

Owen and Avery entered Thursday’s match with identical 4-4 records.

The Warlassies found early success against the Vikings, led by junior Maesyn Gardner, who finished the contest with 19 kills. Junior Addison Bartlett recorded a team high 30 assists, while senior Bailee Worley finished with 8 blocks. Sophomore Mary Keeter led all players with 23 digs.

Owen improced to 4-1 in the WHC with the win, maintaining its second-place standing behind 4-0 Rosman.

The Warlassies will head to North Henderson, Saturday, Sept. 18, for a non-conference match against the Knights. They resume WHC play, Thursday, Sept. 23, on the road against Draughn.
