A hot start to the track and field season continued, March 16, as the Warhorses bested six teams in their second straight home meet.

Owen led the way with 10 first place and registered 17 top three performances in 17 events.

Owen senior Jaheem O’Hara set another school record with a time of 1:57.1 in the 800 meter race, with fellow distance runners Elijah Jones and Tad Sloan-Westmoreland finishing in second and third. The Warhorse 4X800 relay team posted a time of 9:53.7, crossing the finish line 11 seconds ahead of second place finisher, Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy.

Sophomore Harding Kinnaird and junior Leo Parmenter took the top two spots in the 1600 meter run, while the 4X200 and 4X400 relay teams added a pair of gold medals to the Warhorses’ haul.

Owen’s speed was on full display in the meet, with sprinters Davis Kendall, Trevae Woodyard and Keron Clayton taking the top three spots in the 200 meter dash. Woodyard also registered a first place performance in the 300 meter hurdles.

Senior Hunter Inabinett cleared the bar at 6 feet on his way to a gold medal in the higher jump, and Kameron Moore’s 115-foot-6-inch discus throw captured second place in the field event.

The Warhorses’ 178 points clinched the win over R-S Central, which finished the meet with 142.5. Thomas Jefferson rounded out the top three with 116 points. The Warlassies (67) finished fifth out of seven teams, with six top three finishes.

Both teams will head to T.C. Roberson at 4 p.m., Monday, March 24, to compete in the FCA Relay. Owen will host its third home meet next month.
