The Owen Warhorses extended their winning streak to nine games, Sept. 29, with a 5-0 victory at home over Western Highlands Conference opponent, Avery.

The victory was the latest in a dominant run Owen, which sits atop the conference with a 3-0 mark.

The Warhorses opened the match with a quick goal by freshman Davis Kendall, who scored two in the contest. Owen would mount a number of attacks on the Vikings goal in the first half, but went into the break with a 1-0 lead.

It took junior Nino Luther less than 17 minutes to add to the Warhorse lead in the second half, and his teammates quickly followed. Kendall notched his second goal of the night minutes later, followed by second-half goals from seniors Jason Gun and Zack Schwartz.

The aggressive defense of Owen limited the offensive attack of Avery, which managed only a few shots on goal in the contest.

The reigning WHC champions have not lost a game since Aug. 16, when they opened the season with a 2-1 loss against Smoky Mountain. Head coach David Fiest’s team has outscored its opponents by a combined total of 59-8 in their last nine matches.

The Warhorses will attempt to extend their winning streak to double-digits, Monday, Oct. 4, when they travel to Madison to take on the 3-4-1 Patriots. Owen will host Draughn, Wednesday, Oct. 6.
