Warhorse cross country advances to state championship
Owen runners place third in NCHSAA 2A West Regionals

The Owen Warhorse cross country team will run for a state championship in Kernersville, Saturday, Nov. 6, with a third place finish in last weekend’s NCHSAA 2A West Regional competition.
Four Warhorses placed in the top 20, Oct. 30, at Freedom High School, led by junior Elijah Jones, who finished third with a time of 16:55.53.
Three runners from the Western Highlands Conference cross country champions posted times under 18 minutes in regional competition, with junior Jaheem Ohara’s 17:42.03 securing a 14th place finish. Freshman Eli Lewkowicz crossed the finish line in 17:55.39, and was met by his brother, senior Noah Lewkowicz, seconds later.
Owen’s team score of 77 secured third place, behind Brevard and Lincoln Charter, earning the Warhorses a trip to the NCHSAA 2A Cross Country State Championship. The Saturday race will get underway at 2 p.m., in the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex.
