Feb. 9 was a cold morning in Black Mountain, but it didn’t stop more than 300 runners from taking the greenways for the 21st annual Valentine 5K.

The race, which is organized by Black Mountain Recreation and Parks and begins and ends at Lake Tomahawk, raised $454 this year. The proceeds were presented to Black Mountain Home on March 4.

Recreation and Parks director Josh Henderson and recreation coordinator Clint Bowman delivered the donation to Dan Windmiller, the recreation coordinator for BMH. The money will support the home’s Every Day Fund, according to director of development and community relations, Loretta Shelton.

“We are very grateful for the partnership and support received through this fun Valentine’s race,” Shelton said.
