Town of Black Mountain water customers should expect an interruption of service beginning around 8 a.m., Monday, June 8.
The disruption, which will take place as the town public services department works with the City of Asheville to install a new pump station on U.S. 70, will impact Black Mountain water services throughout most of the day.
The installation of the pump will allow the Town of Black Mountain to provide service to approximately 600 residents who are currently receiving water from Asheville. An agreement to transfer water service for the customers was reached in 2019 after Black Mountain received a grant to fund the pump, which will increase the town’s water capacity to adequately serve the Avadim Health, Inc. headquarters once construction is completed. The facility will be located just outside of town limits.
The majority of water customers set to be transferred to Black Mountain reside on the west side of town, but the installation of the pump could impact service throughout, according to public service director Jamey Matthews.
Black Mountain water customers may experience cloudy or dirty water throughout the day and are advised to run cold water until it is clear, the town announced in a code red alert issued on June 5.
Black Mountain was scheduled to take on around 400 of the new water customers in May, Town Manager Josh Harrold told the board of aldermen during their May 11 regular meeting, but that process was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Harrold anticipates that transfer to take place by the end of June.
