The Owen Warlassies improved to 8-6, overall, and 6-2 in the Western Highlands Conference, Sept. 28, defeating Mitchell in three straight sets, 25-22, 25-15, 26-24.

The victory was the eighth in the team’s last 11 matches.

The Warlassies opened the contest with a strong set against the Mountaineers, who entered the night with an overall 1-8 record. Junior captain Addison Bartlett played key roles as a server and setter in the opening set.

The attack of junior Maesyn Gardner powered the home team to a convincing victory in the second set, which the Warlassies led throughout.

Mitchell battled back in the third set, but Owen closed it out with a strong performance at the net.

The Warlassies will head to Burnsville, Thursday, Sept. 30, for a WHC match against Mountain Heritage, which enters the contest with a 4-3 conference mark. The team is currently tied with Draughn for second place in the WHC, behind Rosman, which is 6-0 in league play.
