The annual Swannanoa Sweep Community Cleanup, sponsored by Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS), will take place from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., Saturday, April 22.

The local nonprofit organization is inviting area residents to join their neighbors in cleaning up up the community in celebration of Earth Day.

Volunteers will be dispatched in small groups to pick up litter from the roadsides, while several "kid-friendly" cleanup areas are available. Gloves, bags and safety vests will be provided and participates are advised to wear old clothes and sturdy shoes.

The event will begin in the Swannanoa Ingles parking lot at 2323 U.S. 70, where community members can pick up supplies and form groups.
