An outdoor movie series hosted by Friends and Neighbors of Swannanoa (FANS), the Swannanoa Community Council and Friends of the Swannanoa Library will return at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 22, when Cinema on the Square holds a screening of The Iron Giant.

The free movie night, hosted in Grovemont Square, will include games, popcorn and light refreshments.

The Iron Giant is an animated science fiction classic that tells the heart-warming story of a young boy who befriends a giant robot from outer space that a government agent is trying to destroy. The movie, released in 1999, is rated PG and carries an audience approval rating of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Grovemont Square, the center of the nation’s first planned community in Grovemont, holds a large grassy field and playgrounds. Those who attend may bring a chair or a blanket and “enjoy a “night of family-friendly entertainment under the stars.”

FANS, a nonprofit organization founded in 2006, promotes community participation in Swannanoa through various partnerships. The Swannanoa Community Council owns and manages Grovemont Square, including the building that houses the Swannanoa Public LIbrary.
