Stingrays make a splash in home opener

Black Mountain swim team kicks past Granite Falls and Forest City

Hundreds of swimmers descended upon the Black Mountain Pool, June 18, as the Stingrays swam away with a win in their first home meet of the summer.

Nearly 200 swimmers, ranging in age from 6 - 18 years old, represented the Swannanoa Valley against the Granite Falls Sharks and Forest City Stingrays.

Individual swimmers and relay teams from Black Mountain opened the meet with top finishes in the first seven events, as the girls team cruised to a combined point total of 334 points, outpacing Granite Falls (144) and Forest City (119). The boys home team combined for 274 point to top the 174 the 174 of the visiting Stingrays and the third-place Sharks (110). Both Black Mountain teams combined for 47 first-place finishes in 84 events.

The Stingrays will travel to McDowell County, Tuesday, June 21, to take on the Mariners, before heading to Granite Falls on June 28. They will return to Black Mountain, Thursday, June 30, when they host Valdese.
