Owen wins big for its littlest fans

Warlassies and Warhorses welcome young players on Youth Night

The Warlassies and Warhorses treated some of their youngest fans to a pair of home victories, May 1, as the high school hosted Owen Youth Night.

Players from the Charles D. Owen Babe Ruth League were welcomed to the softball and baseball fields, as Owen High School hosted Avery.

The Warlassies wasted little time putting runs on the board, taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, as youth softball players cheered from the stands. Led by senior pitcher Addison Bartlett, Owen softball improved to 10-7 this season, shutting out the visiting Vikings, 5-0.

The Warhorses stepped onto the field with players from the youth baseball league, before taking an early 1-0 lead. Led by senior Jakob Knighton, the Owen pitching staff held the Vikings scoreless as the team improved to 6-12.

Both teams will be back in action for Senior Night, Tuesday, May 2, when the Warlassies take the field against Rosman at 5:30 p.m., while the Warhorses face off against the Tigers at 6 p.m.
