Owen High School senior Sam Hey is heading to Cary, Friday, Feb. 12, as he attempts to win a 1A/2A state championship in the 200 yard individual medley.

Hey was the lone member of the Seahorses to advance beyond the Western Regional competition in Huntersville, Feb. 5, when he posted a 2:06.53 final time in the event. His performance secured a third-place finish and qualified him to compete for a state title.

The swimmer qualified for two events in regional competition, following a regular season in which he helped lead Owen to a Western Highlands Conference championship.

Hey will be one of 12 swimmers competing for the state title.
