Baseball and softball teams wrap up 2022 season at Veterans Park

The Swannanoa Valley’s youngest baseball and softball players took the field for the final time in the 2022 season, Oct. 12, as the Charles D. Owen Babe Ruth League hosted its closing ceremonies.

Six of the nine teams in the league, with players ranging in age from 6 to 12 years old, competed on the diamond in Veterans Park.

Approximately 100 players suited up for the fall season, representing the pink and purple softball squads; the 6U Giants and Braves; the Cubs and Pirates 8U teams, the 10U Cardinals and the 12U Yankees and Rangers. Twenty-two volunteers coached the clubs, which competed against teams representing districts throughout the region.

Each player was introduced to the fans as they took the field to close out the season.
