The Owen Warhorses lost their third straight game, Sept. 24, as they fell to 1-4 in a 55-27 loss to Mitchell at home.

The Mountaineers were in control throughout the night, as Owen dropped to 0-2 in the Western Highlands Conference.

The Warhorses opened their conference schedule last week with a 36-7 loss on the road against Draughn, which opened the contest with a touchdown in the opening minutes. Mitchell was also able to find the end zone quickly against the Owen defense, which spotted the visiting team a 28-14 lead in the first quarter.

The Warhorses were unable to close the gap, as the Mountaineers took a 42-14 lead before the end of the first half.

Mitchell would add two touchdowns in the third quarter, while the Owen offense established a pair of successful scoring drives in the second half.

The Warhorses entered the contest with injuries to several starters, including senior quarterback Eli Lanter. Junior Alex Sanchez started the game under center for Owen, and finished the night with a touchdown pass in the first half and a rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Senior Briggs Barker and junior Kameron Moore each collected rushing touchdowns for the Warhorses in the game.

Mitchell improved to 4-2, overall, with the victory, and 2-0 in the WHC.

Owen will look to snap its three-game skid, Friday, Oct. 1, in Burnsville, where the team will face 3-1 Mountain Heritage. The Cougars will enter the contest following a 52-13 victory over Rosman last night.
