Montreat College falls to Carolina University in season opener

Cavaliers start the 2020-21 season with 97-83 loss to Bruins

The Montreat Cavaliers men’s basketball team hosted Carolina University to open the 2020-21 season, Oct. 29. The visiting Bruins entered the contest with a 2-0 record and continued their winning streak with a 97-83 victory over the Cavaliers.

Montreat, which enters the campaign ranked 2nd in the Appalachian Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll, shot 64% from the field in the loss, but the Bruins capitalized on a fast start in which they hit 70% of their shots while hitting 10 of 19 from beyond the 3-point line.

Three Cavaliers finished the game with double-digit scoring performances, including freshman Elijah Idlett who led Montreat with 17 points. Montreat will look for its first win of the season, Saturday, Nov. 7, when they travel to Athens, Tennessee to take on Tennessee Wesleyan University.
