As millions of revelers descend on Munich, Germany, Saturday, Sept. 21, joining in a 214-year-old celebration of Bavarian culture, cuisine and beer, a Black Mountain event returning for its fifth year will offer an opportunity for locals to break out their lederhosen and toast the occasion.
Lookout Brewing Co. will host Oktoberfest, from 12 p.m. - 9 p.m., with live music, German-inspired food and a pair of newly released brews.
Festive dress is encouraged, as Lookout presents its festive fall bash, which will include a performance by Asheville-based Bavarian folk band, Das Oompapas, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. The party will feature the release of the brewery’s Schatz Lager Oktoberfest beer and exclusive Hefeweizen recipe.
The free event celebrates the good cheer, or gemütlichkeit, of the traditional two-week festival that began in Munich in 1810. Oktoberfest, the world’s largest Volksfest, draws nearly 7 million people to Munich to consume millions of gallons of beer, each year.
The local brewery will mark the occurrence with commemorative Oktoberfest steins, while on-site food truck Mac’s offers German-themed food specials. For more information visit lookoutbrewing.com.
