Laura Boswell comes to town to do some 'Pickin' on the Porch'

Asheville-based singer-songwriter to perform in free concert series from Black Mountain Center for the Arts

A free concert series from the Black Mountain Center for the Arts will continue at 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 13, when Laura Boswell comes to town.

The Ashveville-based singer-songwriter will headline the latest Pickin’ on the Porch concert.

The show will be held on the back porch of the Arts Center, facing the parking lot of the on the south side of the building at 225 West State Street. Attendees are invited to bring a blanket or chair to view the performance.

Pickin’ on the Porch was designed by BMCA to create an opportunity to share the talents of local musicians while offering local residents and visitors a chance to enjoy music in an intimate outdoor setting.

Boswell writes folk music with classical influence, described by the Mountain Xpress as "chamber-folk." She exhibits a poetic and technical depth that has garnered comparisons to Joni Mitchell, Norah Jones and Nick Drake.

A classically trained pianist and guitarist with 10 years of teaching experience in styles including pop, rock, folk and jazz, she earned her Bachelor of Music at Guilford College in Greensboro. Boswell studied with Scott Tennant and Bill Kanengiser of the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet in 2013, and teaches guitar, ukulele and piano at the Arts Center. The musician is in the process of recording an album at Citizen Vinyl with Molly Hartwell.
