The Black Mountain Fire Department will begin testing fire hydrants in and around the town, beginning Monday, Oct. 5.

Firefighters on all three shifts will facilitate the process, mandated by the National Fire Protection Association, throughout the week between calls, and as weather permits.

More than 100 hydrants dispersed throughout three zones, east and west of Montreat Road and south of the railroad tracks, will be tested by the department.

Each zone contains 35-45 individual pieces of equipment, and the department advises residents who experience issues with cloudy or dirty water to run the faucet continuously until it clears up.
