There’s nothing like the smell of fresh evergreens to signal the start of the holiday season.

Every year the Black Mountain Beautification Committee offers live wreaths and garland to the community as a way to offset the costs of decorating the town. By ordering fresh holiday greenery from the Beautification Committee, participants in the annual fundraiser help make Black Mountain beautiful during the holidays, and keep it that way all year long.

This year the BMBC is offering two different sizes of fresh, lush Fraser fir wreaths, two different lengths of garland and hand crafted bows to help boost the holiday decorating spirit. Garland can be draped around front doors, over deck rails, inside around windows or over the mantel. Fresh fir wreaths can make great gifts or to spruce up the front door, and for some, the front grill of their vehicles.

The greenery can be purchased at blackmountainbeautification.org, and the deadline for orders is Wednesday, Nov. 15, for pick-up, Saturday, Dec. 2, the day of the Black Mountain Christmas Parade.

For added convenience, greenery can be ordered at the Black Mountain Tailgate Market on Saturday, Nov. 11, with cash, check or credit card.

Lori Pisani has been chair of the greenery fundraising committee since 2017 and has watched the popularity of this effort increase each year.

“Originally the goal was to offset the cost of the greenery that the committee uses to decorate the town,” Pisani said. “Now we are able to pay for that plus make a little profit that goes to all of the other beautification projects such as maintenance of town gardens and garden site throughout the year.”

The community enjoys the greenery not only for its beauty but also for the “buy local” aspect of the product.

“We switched nurseries a few years ago because the one we were using closed down due to the pandemic,” Pisani said. “But, our current nursery’s product is so fresh and long lasting, the greenery of the wreaths and garlands is so full and dense, we get lots of compliments on it.”

Upon completion of the order form and payment, an email will be sent with specifics on the date, time and location of greenery pick up.
