Both the Asheville Christian Academy men’s and women’s teams fell when they traveled to take on Winston Salem Christian last week in their final contests before the Christmas break.

The men’s game was tight throughout, after the Lions took a 5-point deficit to the halftime break, before establishing a 4-point lead in the third quarter, thanks to two transition dunks by DeAnte Green.

The Lions led for only a short time and in the final quarter suffered from an all too familiar scoring drought.  With the game tied at 42, Winston Salem Christian went on a 13-4 run to close the game sending the Lions to a 55-46 defeat.

The 1-10 Lions were led by Green, who finished with 17 points. Senior Collin Mills added 10 points while Kavan Horton scored 9 points in the losing effort.

The ACA men’s team is back in action after the Christmas break as they travel to York Prep to tackle several of the best prep schools in the region. The Lions open up with Franklin Prep on Monday, Dec. 28, followed by Bull City Prep, Dec. 29, and Elevation Prep on Dec. 30.

The ACA women’s team ran into their toughest opponent of the season when they took the floor against Winston Salem Christian. The Lions entered the contest with a 7-1 record but Winston Salem Christian boasted an 11-0 record and jumped out to an early 15-4 advantage.

The Lions struggled to keep the game close before making a dent in the lead during the fourth quarter.  ACA fell to 7-2 on the season with the 54-23 loss, as Nandhi Smith led the way with 11 points.

The ACA women’s team will travel to Columbia, South Carolina this week, playing three games against several top teams from the area.
