A new program offered by the Black Mountain Recreation and Parks Department is offering new adventures in the era of social distancing.

Arm’s Length Adventures is designed to keep the community active and adventurous during the re-opening phases of COVID-19. This series will take place between Monday, Aug. 10 and Friday, Sept. 14, and will feature weekly bike rides, waterfall hikes, and river cleanups.

To ensure the safety of all participants, groups will be limited to 10 people, including group leaders, and social distancing will be enforced. Sanitizing measures will also be put in place to further protect all participants. Programs will vary based on difficulty and eligible age groups. Registration for each program is required and the offerings are free of charge.

Arm’s Length Adventures will feature three different programs each week that will be local and allow interested participants to get outdoors and learn more about adventure opportunities located around Black Mountain.

Mondays will feature bike rides led by BMRP's recreation coordinator, Clint Bowman. All bike rides will go through local greenways and scenic roads.

Wednesdays, referred to as Waterfall Wednesdays, will be led by Bowman and recreation coordinator Collin Bugniazet, who is also a professional photographer. Bugniazet will be offering helpful tips to any participants interested in photographing waterfalls.

Fridays will consist of river cleanups around Veteran’s Park and the Flat Creek Greenway. All supplies for the cleanups will be provided by BMRP.

Arm’s Length Adventures are presented by Black Mountain Recreation and Parks and sponsored by Epic Cycles and Take a Hike Mountain Outfitters. To sign up for an adventure, visit the BMRP website. For more information about this series or how to register, contact Clint Bowman at clint.bowman@townofblackmountain.org or call the recreation department at (828) 669-2052.
