A- C Valley Fun and Health Fair

The A-C Valley First Program held their annual Fun and Health Fair at A-C Valley Elementary School on Friday, June 5tb, 2009. The fair was sponsored by the First Program, UPMC and the Red Cross. There was plenty to do!  Kid’s enjoyed games, prizes, and snow cones, while their parents got sound advice at several health booths, gave blood and ate good food.

This year’s fair was a great success with over 250 in attendance.  What makes a good fair? To make a good fair you must have excellent planning, and excellent volunteers.  This fair had all the ingredients.  Several volunteers helped to make the day a success they had kid volunteers to help run the games, volunteers from the Mid-Atlantic Youth and parent volunteers from the First Program.

The First Program would like to thank the businesses who donated items for their Chinese Auction that benefited, Angel’s for Christmas. “This was the most successful Chinese Auction to date,” said Maria Clark, First Program Director.   Angel’s for Christmas is a charity that provides toys, coats, clothes and shoes for needy children in the A-C Valley School District.

There was so much going on at the Fun and Health Fair it is hard to mention it all. However it is important to note that the Red Cross’ Blood Mobile were able to collect 29 units of blood, just one shy of their goal.  Thanks to everyone for their precious donation.

From Old to the New

On July 24,2008, Foxburg said goodbye to the old bridge that spanned across the Allegheny for the last 87 years. Although this is old news we think it is note worthy to mention it again.  The old bridge was built in 1921 by the Bethlehem Steel Bridge Company and was very unique in it’s design.  It held both cars and trains.

A new bridge spans across the Allegheny once again in Foxburg.  May it stand for the next 87 years and more.

If you missed the demolition you can click below and see it.
